THE ROMANCE

  • Your initial meet. How did it happen?

I was first introduced to Lahiru through a mutual friend. He was in Dubai at the time and we got talking through social media. The first time I met him was when I had to go to Dubai for a business meeting and we decided to meet up for coffee.

  • Who made the first move? How?

Lahiru did! He took me to Dubai Fountain in front Burj Khalifa and asked me to be his girlfriend while we were watching the fountain show.

  • What was your first impression about your spouse?

That he was cute and kind-hearted.

  • In what ways are you most alike?

We are both hard working people and we both support each other’s dreams. We also have an inclination to helping people in whichever way we can.

  • What's your most memorable date? Why?

The first time we practiced Yoga together. As a Yoga instructor, it was really heartwarming and touching to see Lahiru try really hard to take part in my class and take an interest in my passions even though it looked like he was having a tough time following some of the asanas.

  • Three things you love and hate about your partner.

Love – Kind hearted, hardworking, down to earth

I do not hate anything about him.

THE PROPOSAL

  • How did the proposal happen?

Lahiru came to Sri Lanka on vacation and we decided to go Trincomalee and Pigeon Island with our friends. While we were in Pigeon Island I got badly sunburnt and needed medicine for it from the pharmacy in the evening. He told me that he needed to get his wallet from the room and as we were on our way to get it, I noticed flowers, balloons and candles.

Before I could figure out what was going on, he was proposing with the most perfect diamond ring! Turned out he had been planning it for a while (minus my sunburn) and even got our friends help with decorating the area.

  • If the proposal was a surprise, on a scale of 10 how well did it go?

It was a complete surprise. I’d give it a 10/10.  I did not expect it at all!

  • What are you most looking forward to as Mr. and Mrs.?

Moving to Oman and starting our life together.

THE WEDDING

  • Most memorable moment from your wedding?

The first dance! We had only a week to practice the dance and Lahiru was not able to pick up the steps as easily, but in the end he did better than me! And it was extremely romantic.

  • If you could describe your wedding day using one word, what would it be?

Magical

  • What's been the most fun detail of your wedding to plan?

Deciding on the decor

  • What's been the most difficult detail of your wedding to agree upon?

I would say it was integrating Muslim and Buddhist traditions into our wedding.

LIFE AFTER

  • Where did you go for your honeymoon?

The both of us enjoy traveling within Sri Lanka and the beach, so we decided to pick a few beach destinations. In no particular order, we went Polonnaruwa, Passikudah, and a few places down south which were Unawatuna, Hikkaduwa and Bentota.

  • What is your idea of, “and they lived happily ever after”?

Being there for each other through the good times and bad, and trusting each other.

  • What has surprised you the most during the first Few weeks/months of being married?

That he likes giving me a kiss before leaving for work every morning, really working together as one whether it is doing the dishes or folding laundry, and how supportive he is with my career as a Yoga instructor.

  • Who’s good at forgetting and better at forgiving?

Good at forgetting – Lahiru

Better at forgiving – Me
